The goal was
to create an Entry Courtyard with identity, a sense of place, and a positive
environment for the existing entryway to the Middletown Area Transit (MAT)
Bus Terminal Station.
The Design incorporates a palette of materials, textures, and patterns
with the intent of enhancing the pedestrian's experience. This is represented
by the integration of textured concrete walks, fieldstone planter walls,
wood post and beam construction with lattice screens, and historical light
posts. A varied and multi-colored cornucopia of perennials, random annuals,
shrubs, vines, and trees inhabit the peripheral areas and stone planters,
breathing life in the form of a garden.
Ultimately, this project is intended to enhance the senses and to work
as a receptive, positive and pleasant component of the built environment.
