This 70+ year
old house required a major rejuvenation. 90% of the interior was gutted
and now a colonnade wraps around the living room, open to the rest of the
first floor. This greatly increases the visual impact of the spectacular
lakefront view. The new second floor contains the master bedroom suite
with a hipped vaulted ceiling and an array of windows facing the lake.
The external form resulted from removing the entire mid-roof section and
extending the existing front dormer pitch up towards the south. This evolved
into a dynamic gesture, forming an intentional dialogue with the lake.
The new triangular dormer above the kitchen reinforces the juxtaposed images
of a bird with a surrealistic machine. Furthermore, the new exterior envelope
completes the rebirth of this 3,300 s.f. home.
